Total receipts were up 50% from the first weekend last year, setting Hollywood off to a strong start after a year in which domestic ticket sales grew 10% and attendance rose nearly 6%, according to Hollywood.com.

Can someone explain to me the war on consumers the MPAA continues? I know this is beating a dead horse, but it still irks me that the movie companies would like to consider me a pirate because I rip my purchased movies to iPod format for my boys – and for myself.
Newsflash to MPAA – it’s not considered a “loss” if there was never going to be a purchase in the first place (college students and Chinese markets). That’s like me saying “I lost $300 million last year due to people repairing their own computers.” Yeah – right. Morons.
Oh crap – I just violated copyright law by posting part of their report. Oops.
By the way, I guess all those “foreign pirates” must have come clean to go see Avatar and boost ticket sales.
Don’t believe me? Just check out the EFF site then:
