Why would you want to record phone calls?
There are many reasons, but I record a lot of calls that I make to AT&T, Comcast, and other companies. That way there is no discrepancy in what was said.
Of course, it goes without saying that you should check your local and state laws before recording. While Louisiana is a “one-party” state, several are not – or have conflicting laws. One-party means that as long as one part in the conversation consents to the recording, then it is legal. For example, if you call me (or I call you) then I can record the call without notice. However, a 3rd person could not intercept the call and record us unless one of us had consented.
Naturally, those laws don’t seem to apply to law enforcement, but that’s another post.
If you have a non-jailbroken iPhone, then Apple does not allow apps to record calls. The app and service that I use gives you a phone number that you conference in, and the service records the call. Technically, the “app” just registers your phone number with the service so it is recognized and the recording will happen.
This works on inbound and outbound phone calls. If someone calls me (inbound) and I need to record it, then I simply say “let me put you on hold for a moment” and dial the “record” number and merge the calls.
